* Curriculum activities within the API refinery in Falconara M.ma (AN)

My performance of work at the refinery in Falconara API M.ma starts on 10/6/2002.
My main contact is the SIMAM SRL based in Rimini Via Mantegna n.1. Contact person at the organizational undertaking and Safety Officer is Mr. Sandro Rossi.
My final destination in the refinery is the company "PIANIMPIANTI", formerly called "HIM" and become about a month after "REMEDIA", with registered offices in Milan and workplace precisely the API refinery in Falconara M.ma.
The task of the working group regarding the geological activity is primarily to detect water levels and shares of the hydrocarbons present in the wells of the Refinery, and take samples of hydrocarbons on the surface of the water, trying to distinguish fluid, opaque than transparent.
During our work we had to wear "Personal Protective Equipment". The group consisted of the following elements: S. Margiotta (Environmental Engineering), G. Pirani (Geologist), M. Corinaldesi (Geologist), G. Palpacelli (Geologist), S. Galassi (Environmental Engineering), L. Ferioli (Geologist) and F. Zeppilli (Environmental Engineering). Activities were directly responsible by M. Tamberi (geologist), A. Baldini (Geologist) and M. Tomassoni (Environmental Engineering).

The "piezometers" are those wells inside the refinery marked by a red-green sign that indicates the number. The survey is done through a graduated probe with acoustic sound that signals the presence of hydrocarbons and continuous tone with intermittent presence of water. In practice, the oil being lighter than water, the probe introduced into the piezometer, once in contact with the aquifer first emits a continuous signal which becomes intermittent in the moment in which it comes in contact with water.
The piezometers appointed to the survey and the sample collection, are present in all areas of the refinery: IGCC area (ALSTOM), SMPP area, area DEPOSITO NAZIONALE, PRB area, PRA area, OMB-SIF area, PAS area and area SFERE(SIA).
To operate in these areas you should be obtain and withdraw work permits, at the end of survey and sampling. In order to obtain all work permits from the various heads-round leaders of the various areas of the refinery takes more than an hour of time spent in activities such as "bureaucratic".
The data of the survey and sampling are processed into charts and graphics made with programs "Excel" and are an integral part of weekly, monthly or annual report for environmental control of regional institute "ARPAM".
To move within the refinery we use a large van "Fiat-Ducato".
About 2-3 times a week, in collaboration with the REMEDIA, ARPAM controls wells subject to inspection, survey and sampling.
The surveys and sampling are processed daily, even in case of rain.
The wells that have considerable amount of hydrocarbons are the following: "P405"(area PRB),"PZ6"(area SFERE),"PZ2"(area SFERE),"P414"(area OMB),"P415"(area IGCC),"LT1"(area IGCC),"P67"(area DEPOSITO NAZIONALE),"P404”(area PRB),"P413"(area PRA),"P106"(area OMB-SIF),"P308"(area PAS),"P19"(area OMB),"PZ10" (area OMB),"PW4"(area "IGCC"),and the "PW10"(area OMB-SIF).
A separate deserve the wells "RW7", "RW6", "RW5","RW4",almost special for the type of oily product present, very heavy and therefore difficult to be taken and detect.
We consider quantity and not level, becaues the measure of the simple thickness of oily product must be put in relation to the size of the container (the piezometer).
A well of larger diameter has a thickness of oily product but less "picks up" in a continuous and rapid surrounding the oily product if it is subtracted from the fluid.
The amount of oily product downloadable from each well is influenced by the presence of factors which are relevant with regard to the consistency of that oily product present in the aquifer, as the phenomenon of high water due to strong winds blowing from South-East ("Scirocco"), or simply rough seas, rain, et cetera.
The "geological activity" of my working group within the API Refinery has been recognized with satisfaction by the company "REMEDIA" also signed the certificate issued on 15.10.2002 (see attached photo)
